The ensemble is not defined by a single period or school of composition. Instead, it explores the chamber-orchestra repertoire across styles and generations, creating programmes designed to be varied, imaginative and engaging.
Jakarta Sinfonietta has performed with international soloists including pianists Enrico Elisi, Sam Haywood, Tony Yike Yang and Congyu Wang, and violinist Gia Jashvili. It has also collaborated with leading young Indonesian artists including Bernadeta Astari, Giovani Biga, Isyana Saraswati, Jessica Januar, Randy Ryan, Stephanie Onggowinoto and Yasashi I. Evelyn Pangaribuan.
Its work reflects a wider commitment to enriching musical life in Indonesia, raising performance standards and creating opportunities for exceptional young musicians to develop and present their artistry.
Following the orchestra’s inaugural concert, Tunggul Wirajuda of The Jakarta Globe wrote:
“The heavily touted Sinfonietta plays to an audience mesmerized by the group’s talent.”
Jakarta Sinfonietta operates under the Jakarta Conservatory of Music Foundation, which supports the development of music in Indonesia through education, artistic opportunities and programmes that encourage wider public appreciation of music.
